Remembered Today:

Citation assistance

Bethany Moore

Recommended Posts

I am currently researching the list of men from my town who died in FWW.

One of them was awarded the DCM and I would like to find his citation but I have been struggling to find anything.

I was wondering if anyone would be able to help me.

The citation I am looking for is for:

2nd Lt Arthur Harper DCM

2nd Bn Border Regiment

Died: 02/04/1917

From the research that I have done from his medal card etc - he would have received his DCM whilst either a Cpl or Sgt with 5th Dragoon Guards. I am not certain but I think it may have been awarded in 1914.

Any assistance would be great fully received!

Hi Bethany,
It should be possible to find the details via a dataset that FindMyPast has been hosting for a while, Citations of the Distinguished Conduct Medal. It appears that it is also available via Ancestry.

Have you been able to find a medal card (within the WO 372) that gives the date that the award was gazetted (announced) in the London Gazette?
Beaten to it by Charlie, I see.

Thank you Keith!

I had got his medal card from the NA but only showed the BVM/VM/14-15 Star, not the DCM at all

Thank you for your help

Hi Bethany,

The card is merely the means to get to the end result of finding it in the gazette. They state the LG date & number, nothing else of interest.
I found the card, reference WO 372/23/56363.

Another open and shut case, courtesy of Charlie.
