Hello everyone,

Can someone please explain to me how I would clarify medal entitlement for 304249 Stoker Petty Officer Ernest Frederick Yalden who served before and during WW1?

Thank you

Hi Ian,
He should be on the medal roll. I see that he enlisted in 1903, so I would imagine he got the trio of 1914-15 Star, British War Medal & Victory Medal, as far as campaign medals are concerned.

You can download the medal rolls for free from The National Archives. The file reference will be ADM 171/119

Hope this is helpful.

I have just found the roll and downloaded it, so thank you very much.

The medal references are:

ST, V and B

What does this mean?

Abbreviations for the three medals Keith listed in his post above, (1914/1915) Star, Victory and British War Medals.

Hi Ian,

I expect you have seen his service records? https://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/results/r?_q=ernest+frederick+yalden+ADM

If not, they can be downloaded for free at the moment after a brief registration.

Best wishes,

seaJane
