Woke up this morning to torrential rain and just thought "WHYYYYYYY"???

But... I must have done something right because it might be grey and windy but I managed the two first visits without rain. Now having a break and sharing a cup of tea with the boys at Gouzeaucourt. I hopethey don't mind me eating my lunch at their cemetery.

P.S. Does bear take sugar in his tea?

Clever photo of the Pozieres tank and yours, I like that. Deborah is looking fine too. I should also take this opportunity to say that the families of Donald Sloan and James Roy loved your photos from the Arras Memorial and cemetery and asked me to pass on their thanks. I'm also grateful for you looking in on Helen, that's really good of you.

Looking forward to following your progress.

So today the weather was better ... first rays of sunshine pierced through the clouds when I was at Devonshire's

D94A0619.JPG.ba765dc2bbd9b55707377fd57cd3bb1f.JPG

Then passed at Louvencourt, on the way to Bagneux

D94A0661.JPG.58077f967bd0135008f2dd39c56dbca0.JPG

I visited the Salle de Commandement unique  in Doullens. I had a contact there who tried to get me in the citadel but that would only have been possible at 1730... bit too late. Doesn't matter, It's a good excuse to come back one day.

Then on to Abbeville...was a quick visit, I did the pics I needed for the project and then went back out as fast as possible... had gotten some bad looks from the French side to the camera and there was a burial going on which had the very bad idea of blasting a song of "Johnny" to the casket... yikes!!!

Passing Noyelles

then on to Etaples ...

and yes, I've got all the requests... big files as usual per wetransfer

Mike, you owe me for this one!!

That's it for today... now in Montreuil, at the Vauban, just next to Haig's statue.

toedeloe...

Thanks for posting the photos, it's really great to follow your progress. I've really missed our school trip this year, but following your journey is making up for it.

Not sure who's enjoying the trip more, you or the bear!

To answer your question Dave, Bear did not have a Dame Blanche... gniac gniac gniac.

Was home on time, the three cemeteries for today:

Boulogne

Terlincthun:

Wimereux:

Little stop at the Channel Outlet (still a girl, in case somebody wonders...) and then home on time for dinner with Boyfriend... I bought him a magazine about weapons, so he's happy!

Will start sorting out the other 3.341 pictures tomorrow during the day and start sending the requests...

I had a great time on the road and I have enough pictures to "feed" the thread about the women on the western front again.

August there MIGHT be a number of YPRES SALIENT opportunities, have to check the maps first...

until then ...

Just noticed this post Marilyne. I wish I had taken note of where else you were visiting.

Thomas Godfrey's cousin, Arthur Henry is buried at Boulogne. He was wounded at Ypres in March 1916 and died later in July.P1010562.JPG.f93f49f1876d56fd54b5a69df16edd1e.JPG

Just wanted to post a public thank you to Marilyne for taking the time to visit three of our own Perth Academy former pupils at Boulogne Eastern Cemetery during her tour. Also remembering Ethel Fearnley from Brighouse, West Yorkshire, the first nurse to die on active service in the Great War,

The pleasure was all mine, Dave!!

And remember: as soon as you're over to the front, let me know, so we can organise a bear-date!
