Irish Dave Posted 2 June , 2020 Share Posted 2 June , 2020 Hi folks, Am trying to find out more about my Great Grandfather Second Lieutenant FD Edmands. He died in action on 1/12/1917 and was attached as follows: 952nd Mechanical Transport Coy. Army Service Corps attd Royal Garrison Artillery He is buried in Ramleh Cemetry in Israel so am trying to find out which action did he die in and where and who was the enemy? As it seems to be local uprisings that were occurring at this time? Many thanks in advance!

mancpal Posted 2 June , 2020 Share Posted 2 June , 2020 (edited) Dave, war diaries are free to download at the moment (courtesy of the National Archive) so the correct one may indicate where he was on the day, as an officer he may even be mentioned by name. HarryBrook Posted 2 June , 2020 Share Posted 2 June , 2020 If you just google Palestine 1 December 1917 you will find that at that time the Battle of Jerusalem was underway and, on 1 December in particular the Battle of El Burj when the forces of the Ottoman Empire counter attacked the Egyptian Expeditionary Force. One of the google hits is on a facebook page which appears to give quite an account of the affair in general.
