museumtom Posted 1 June , 2020 Share Posted 1 June , 2020 This sailor was a blacksmith by trade but what was his naval rank please?
RNCVR Posted 1 June , 2020 Share Posted 1 June , 2020 Terrible writing but think Blacksmith then at bottom of record - Blk I - Blacksmith 1st class - a Petty Officer 1st class rank. It may give his civilian occupation/trade top right of his ADM 188. Thanks, Bryan
RNCVR Posted 1 June , 2020 Share Posted 1 June , 2020 Might you post his full ADM 188, be interested in the dates he served on the various ships. Thanks, Bryan

RNCVR Posted 1 June , 2020 Share Posted 1 June , 2020 Thanks Tom. He might have a RN LS medal, his Conduct & Time was good, it wouls say - 'Tr Med' or 'Traced Medal' with a date in the Remarks column (lower right hand column). He was due in March 1914. & deffo a 1WW trio, he was at Jutland on board Batlecruiser HMS Lion, VAdm Beatty's flagship, Battlecruiser Fleet. Best.... Tom, Your Blacksmith might have also a China 1900 campaign medal, she was in China from early 1900 until 1903. You would have to check his name against the China medal roll in ADM 171 on the NA site. As it turns out I have the medal group of the First Lieut of Pique at that time, he was a Canadian serving in the RN. I have his autobio as well & he tells of very interesting times in China during that campaign. Best....Bryan
