Stephen303 Posted 1 June , 2020 Share Posted 1 June , 2020 I have found what I believe is my grandfather's war record but it fails to mention any medals, he was invalided out in 1917. Would medal entitlements be listed elsewhere ?
horatio2 Posted 1 June , 2020 Share Posted 1 June , 2020 (edited) Welcome to the GWF. Admiralty medal rolls are in ADM 171 at Kew. A name and number would help, please. Edited 1 June , 2020 by horatio2

horatio2 Posted 1 June , 2020 Share Posted 1 June , 2020 (edited) I assume Gunner Albert Hibberd of the Royal Marine Artillery. He served twice: first as RMA/12788 from 1911 to 1913 when he was invalided out. Record download here:- https://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/details/r/D7789098 and then as RMA /14267 from 1914 to 1917 when he was again discharged invalided. Record download is here:- https://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/details/r/D7790576 There are also two sets of papers for him at Kew under ADM 157:- https://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/details/r/C14890375 and https://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/details/r/C14891904 These records have to be ordered. Hibberd served with the RMA at Dunkirk in 1914 and was entitled to the 1914 Star (but not the Clasp to the Star) as well as the Victory and British War Medals. The 1914 Star was issued to him after discharge on 15 March 1919 and he claimed the other two later. The medal roll for the 1914 Star is ADM 171/139 where he is listed in the RMA section. You can download the roll here:- https://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/details/r/C975109 (a large file) The main RMA roll is ADM 171/169 and his entry is on page 105. You can download that roll here:- https://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/details/r/C975139 (another large file) Good luck! Stephen303 Posted 1 June , 2020 Author Share Posted 1 June , 2020 Thanks for this, it seems he may have lied about his date of birth as I have always been told 4th Nov1894.
horatio2 Posted 1 June , 2020 Share Posted 1 June , 2020 No point lying as both dates would have him over 17 on attesting.
