Trooper King Edward's Horse Posted 27 May , 2020 Share Posted 27 May , 2020 I am researching the series of combats between the British and German cavalry in August and September 1914. Is anyone able to give me some guidance as to whether or not German cavalry manuals, regimental histories, personal accounts, etc. are available in downloadable format anywhere, or, given the restrictions of the COVID 'lockdown', if they are accessible in the UK apart from in certain military libraries, like that at RUSI? Also, has anyone in the Forum already done some research on this topic or made translations of any of the German material which they might be willing to share with me? I am, of course, happy to pay for copies or scans. I already have the following German texts: Poseck's The German Cavalry in Belgium and France in 1914 in both German and the English translation. Vogel's 3000 km mit der Garde-Kavallerie The 1928 collection of essays titled Heereskavallerie in Bewegungskrieg. Pelet-Narbonne's 1911 edition of Mirus' Leitfaden fur den Kavalleristen. Unger's Drei Jahre im Sattel. Many thanks, Alan

Trooper King Edward's Horse Posted 27 May , 2020 Author Share Posted 27 May , 2020 Hi Charlie2, That's great! Thanks. I'll start searching through these links over the next few days. Thanks, once again. Alan
MaureenE Posted 28 May , 2020 Share Posted 28 May , 2020 You could try the Deutsche Digitale Bibliothek https://www.deutsche-digitale-bibliothek.de This would probably pick up the online books which would result from the links charlie2 has given, but there may be additional online titles. As an indication of books available in the Deutsche Nationalbibliothek https://portal.dnb.de/opac.htm?method=simpleSearch&cqlMode=true&reset=true&referrerPosition=0&referrerResultId=idn%3D1045361704%26any&query=idn%3D1045361976 click on the subcategories under "Kavallerie", and click through to the total number of publications under each category. The online versions as indicated available should also be picked up in charlie2's link, but if you see a book not available online, there is a chance it might be available through the Deutsche Digitale Bibliothek For libraries in the UK you could try searching on Library Hub Discover https://discover.libraryhub.jisc.ac.uk You could also enquire from the Prince Consort's Library at Aldershot whether its collection includes German regimental histories. For details see the FIBIS Fibiwik page of that name https://wiki.fibis.org/w/Prince_Consort's_Library Cheers Maureen
