janet12 Posted 25 May , 2020 Share Posted 25 May , 2020 In a WW1 service record for Royal Marine Light Infantry in the no on ships book column would anyone know what the notation 14MRFR2 would refer to Thank you
horatio2 Posted 25 May , 2020 Share Posted 25 May , 2020 (edited) List 14 was for supernumeraries borne in the ship for temporary service - in this case a man from the Royal Fleet Reserve(RFR) - hence 14 RFR. He may have been a reservist under training or a mobilised reservist. We need the context to be sure. Edited 25 May , 2020 by horatio2

horatio2 Posted 25 May , 2020 Share Posted 25 May , 2020 Confirmed - a mobilised RFR man serving supernumerary in the old battleship turned repair ship HMS VICTORIOUS. Just a friendly check - do you have his previous RMLI record as Chatham/4743? - https://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/details/r/D7764171 And (post-Covid) you can get his ADM 157 papers from Kew - https://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/details/r/C12283520 and also https://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/details/r/C14211176

janet12 Posted 3 June , 2020 Author Share Posted 3 June , 2020 (edited) I had one more question regarding the service record for the same marine in the RMLI .His service record has a notation in the character column where good has been crossed out and changed to fair and next to this is written TEMO or TLMO 7299-1900 .Would you know what this would mean. horatio2 Posted 3 June , 2020 Share Posted 3 June , 2020 It is difficult to read but I believe the reference is to a communication from the Royal Marines Office (RMO) at the Admiralty.
