Remembered Today:

Una Clara Margaret Strickland French Red Cross

Dear all,

I have recently bought the WW1 medal group of Una Clara Margaret Strickland.

She served in the French Red Cross during WW1.

I have located her medal card from the National Archives but sadly, other than French Red Cross, it doesn't give any details about where she was based.

I would like to establish where she served if possible.

Her son was a Hurricane pilot in the Battle of Britain so I'm hoping that the medals will end up on display at Bentley Priory.

Finally, it would be smashing to locate a photograph of her.

Hoping that somebody can help me out.

Kind regards

Gerry

If she was a professional nurse there may be something on her in the Royal College of Nursing archive - https://www.rcn.org.uk/library/archives

The ‘UK WW1 Service Medal and Award Rolls’ for the ‘British Committee French Red Cross’ has her as a Canteener with Depots d’Eclopes at d’Isoles between Apr 1917 and Oct 1917

[There is also a Claude Strickland listed for the same period]

Cheers, Frev

I think you will find that Una's father topped himself in 1893

Una related to Gertrude Lowthian Bell

worthy of some research

you may find a photo of Una possibly among the Bell family archives

Hi all,

Ray, thanks for the tip regarding the Bell connection.

I'll certainly have a look there.

Ray, where did you find the link suggesting that she may be related to Gertrude Lothian Bell?

I don't have ancestry or anything similar so havent been able to make that link.

Do you know what relation she may be?

Cheers

Gerry
