dorrie Posted 22 May , 2020 Share Posted 22 May , 2020 Although a member of the Hawke Battalion when killed during the Battle Of Ancre, I believe he may have enlisted in the South Wales Borderers. I am trying to establish if this is correct and if so when and why did he move the 63rd RND. Any help gratefully received Dorrie
horatio2 Posted 22 May , 2020 Share Posted 22 May , 2020 (edited) There is nothing in his RND record to suggest previous service in SWB. Perhaps the fact that his RNVR service number was Wales Z/902 (WZ/902) is leading to this assumption. He enrolled in the RNVR (for RND) on 3 May 1915. On enrolling he would have been required to declare previous service. His enrolment papers are held in the archive of the Fleet Air Arm Museum (National Museum of the Royal Navy), presently Covid-closed.
