Hi again chaps,

I'm trying to make to most of tree downloads from TNA

I'm struggling with my searching methods, but I can't get hold of the war diary 2nd Battalion of Royal Welsh Fusiliers for 1916. I'm only after April up to July 1916.

I have another lead on a relative George Gazey 36625 who was killed 20th June 1916 and is apparently recorded on the Loos memorial with no known grave.

Cheers for the link if anyone can!

Regards

Rob

George Gazey 36625 is on the Loos Memorial on panel 50 to 52 Date of Death 20-6-16.

When he enlisted in the RWF he was asked have you ever served in any branch of his Majesty’s forces before? George Answered NO. Have you truly stated the whole, if any of your previous service?

George lied a second time.

George Gazey joined to Rifle Brigade at the age of 29 on 24-8-14 Previous he had been in 5th Warwick Militia and had bought himself out he gave his Wife’s name as Rose Gazey 29 Milward St and sons name George Charles and provided his marriage cert. Etc.

Questions were asked between the RWF and the Rifle Brigade and George denied being a deserter ect.

The officer in charge of infantry record at Shrewsbury was responsible for the wrong date of George Gazeys death. Saying in a note that the date of death has been assumed to be 20-6-16

Strange that his Wife had a letter saying it was on 22-6-16

George Gazey was killed by a mine explosion 22-6-16 Givenchy RDC

Hi,

Thanks for all the info.

I've read through his papers on Fold3, I can only find his RWF documents, which include a couple of letters from Winchester saying they can't find any record of him with Paymaster, Mess, Deserting or Discharge etc. They state clearly they can't find any previous for him... Are you sure?

Also, where did you get that photo? Where did you get the details on his death at Givenchy on 22nd from mine explosion?

I still can't find the War Diary for 2nd Batt RWF. They're almost impossible to find on TNA website. Help!

Regards

Rob
