travers61 Posted 21 May , 2020 Share Posted 21 May , 2020 (edited) I can't see that this has been mentioned before so will give it an airing. The ornate memorial stood in the grounds of this orphanage, which became an Industrial School in 1914 and an institution for poor catholic boys from 1929. But it disappeared at some point, with the building being first being requisitioned by the Air Ministry during the war, then being used by the British Overseas Airways Corporation before being demolished and replaced by office blocks. By 1953 both the buildings and the memorial had disappeared when revisited by some former residents. No relevant organisation seems to have any knowledge of the fate of the memorial. https://www.warmemorialsonline.org.uk/memorial/173016/ A longer article about the memorial is here: https://www.indcatholicnews.com/news/13899 Edited 21 May , 2020 by travers61
