AOK4 Posted 17 May , 2020 Share Posted 17 May , 2020 Hello, Does anyone recognise this aircraft? I assume the picture would have been taken in 1918 during the German advance (captured allied airfield somewhere). Thanks, Jan

AOK4 Posted 17 May , 2020 Author Share Posted 17 May , 2020 Thanks Clint! I agree when I look at some pics of that type of airplane online. I had assumed it would most probably been a French plane but I couldn't quite find the exact type. Jan
Dolphin Posted 17 May , 2020 Share Posted 17 May , 2020 (edited) Hi Jan To be precise, it looks to be a Breguet 14A.2, the reconnaissance version of the aircraft type, as indicated by the unequal span wings and the absence of windows in the fuselage next to the observer's position (the bomber version was the 14B.2). There's no Escadrille marking on the marking on the fuselage, so perhaps the aeroplane hadn't been allocated to a unit before it was captured. On the left is a SPAD, but just which model is difficult to determine. I hope this helps Gareth Edited 17 May , 2020 by Dolphin
AOK4 Posted 17 May , 2020 Author Share Posted 17 May , 2020 Thanks also Gareth. The picture seems to be taken at a captured French airfield, I assume the planes were destroyed by the French on purpose so that the Germans couldn't easily take them into use.
