I have a copy of THE HISTORY OF THE LINCOLNSHIRE REGIMENT 1914-1918 by MAJOR-GENERAL C.R.SIMPSON C.B.

ANY INFO WANTED JUST POST HERE.

Hi I am trying to find out a bit about my Great Grandfather Pte. Henry (Harry) Ernest Procter. No. 41266, 10th Bn Lincolnshire Reg. and where he may have been when he received wounds. The War Office Daily List no. 5447, report date 20/12/1917 says wounded, however it doesn't give a location. I can't seem to work out a location, battle etc?

Any light you can shed would be amazing. Thank you

Looking at Grimsby Chums, the story of the 10th Lincolns by Peter Bryant

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Grimsby-Chums-Lincolnshires-Humberside-publications/dp/0904451461/ref=sr_1_3?dchild=1&keywords=Grimsby+Chums&qid=1589707674&s=books&sr=1-3

reports that in December, the 10th were in and out of the line at Cherisy. So for November December 1917 they were in the former Hindenburg near Croisilles , they were at Henin camp for 2 weeks training from 24th November, then in and out of the line at Cherisy. No battles at the time in the area, just routine trench warfare.

Harry was originally Lincs, then Army Service Corps from March 1918, and then from June 1918 he was in the RAF.

Is he related to the brothers James Emerson Proctor and Ernest Arthur Proctor from Scunthorpe?

His RAF Record is on FmP - click

It gives his various service numbers, and also says he was with BEF from 7 May 1917 to 10 Dec 1917 with Lincs

There is a link to Simpson's History on this thread (post 6). It was put on the Forum by member Woollamc some years ago. The formation of the 10th is covered, as is the war service.

The date of the casualty list will postdate the date of actual wounding by several weeks.

The list is available to view from the National Library of Scotland (link). It contains the names of a few other men from his regiment too.

Of the other men I only saw surviving papers for 12121 Stevenson. They appear to record his wounding dates as:

What I'd be tempted to try to do is to look at surrounding days casualty lists under the 'wounded' section, to see if any other Lincolnshire men appear. If they do, hopefully you might find service papers for some of them, from which a pattern of actual wounding dates may appear.

You could start from this page - link, then use the drop down to select the list to look at.

If you find a pattern of dates, it might be possible to make an inference about Henry. Then if you know that he was serving with the 10th Battalion, downloading the war diary (link) might point towards something.

Regards

Chris
