TaurusSteve Posted 9 May , 2020 Share Posted 9 May , 2020 (edited) All I know is that he was in the RNVR and his service number is Z/10721. Maybe someone on here could help me in finding out more? Thanks. I have just found out, from his form, that he was an Ordinary Telegraphist! Edited 9 May , 2020 by TaurusSteve

Cheers! So where it says "Date And Period Of Engagements" on his form. "Hostilities 5th July 1917" That to me say's that he was involved in battles.Or am I reading it wrong? He certainly signed up to go to war and BAT was invloved in protecting East coast convoys.on escort operations.

TaurusSteve Posted 10 May , 2020 Author Share Posted 10 May , 2020 On my great grandad's RNVR join up form, there is a Harry Bosworth. He was born on 29th October 1899, same month and year as my GG and in the same city. He did his training at HMS Victory VI at the same time too! TaurusSteve Posted 10 May , 2020 Author Share Posted 10 May , 2020 On his form, next to where it say's "BATT", can anyone work out what it say's before it? I can't quite read it!🤔
horatio2 Posted 10 May , 2020 Share Posted 10 May , 2020 It says "Wallington (Bat)". HMS WALLINGTON was the base at Immingham for HMS BAT. BAT did not carry her own pay accounts so he was 'borne on the books' of WALLINGTON.

Can someone explain it please A man's Character [i.e. conduct] and Ability [to perform the duties of his rating and specialisation] are assessed at the end of each calendar year and approved by his commanding officer. Character is assessed (depending on punishments awarded in the year) as follows: VG, VG*, Good, Fair or Indifferent. Ability (sometimes referred to as Efficiency) is assessed as : Superior (Supr = above average), Satisfactory (Sat = average), Moderate (Mod = less than average) or Inferior (= inefficient). Your GGF was, therefore of VG character and of average (Sat) ability as an Ordinary Seaman/Ordinary Telegraphist throughout.
