So it does. How clever!

He died after discharge from the RNR (medically unfit 19 Oct 1915) having only served in HMS COLUMBINE since being mobilised on 8 Aug 1914. It appears that the first the Admiral Commanding Reserves knew that your GGF had died was when his widow sought a war gratuity in 1919, her husband having deserted in 1916.

His date of death and circumstances are not on his record. You will need the death certficate.

His entry in the RNR Medal Roll refers to the Mercantile Marine Reserve Medal Roll as a donkeyman.

The MMR Roll shows his entitlement to the trio of WW1 medals but shows that these were Forfeited on account of his desertion "RUN" from the Royal Fleet Auxiliary (RFA) THERMOL.

He must have left the RNR and resumed a MM career.

what does MM stand for

Mercantile Marine (= Merchant Navy in today's terminology).

Also does that mean he had a mercantile marine medal or is that included in the trio ?

No the trio was 1914-15 Star, British War Medal and Victory Medal.
