Remembered Today:

Bomb, H.E., R.F.C., 230-lbs, (Light Case)

I'm struggling to locate a decent image of the above in its Anti-Submarine configuration - that is, with the flat nose cap.  The N&M Press re-print, Details of Aerial Bombs - Air Ministry-1918, shows the bomb in its usual configuration, but doesn't feature a drawing of the AS nose cap.  I'm just trying to find out the material used for these nose caps - presumably a thin gauge sheet steel?

Also, with regard to the above publication, Leaflets No. 4 & 4a are conspicuous by their absence - despite appearing on the contents page.  Would any kind soul have copies of the original pages with these details?

Many thanks in advance.

Hi

N&M have also reprinted 'Handbook of Aircraft Armament' of the Admiralty, Air Department, 1916.  The attached drawings from this book may be the bombs of No. 4 & 4a:

I hope these are of use.

Much appreciated Mike.  These - especially the first two - do indeed help me a great deal.

Cheers!

EDIT:  Just to reiterate, if anyone has come across any details of the 230-lb bomb in its Anti-Submarine, Flat Nosed configuration, I would be most grateful.

Thanks all,

Peter.

  • 3 years later...

New to this forum and interested to see in this thread a drawing for the 65lb bomb and like the original poster was rather frustrated that Leaflets No. 4 & 4a were missing from the N&M Press re-print of Details of Aerial Bombs - Air Ministry-1918. The drawings shown by Mike are great but I'm unable to make out some of the dimensions on the second drawing of the 65lb-er. I wonder whether anybody has these dimensions as I would like to construct one for a display (either from wood or by 3D-printing).

Thanks

Andy
