lynnie57 Posted 30 April , 2020 Share Posted 30 April , 2020 You have all been so helpful before and am wondering if you help me again. I have been blogging about my Great-Grandfather's medals but I am confused about this one which appears to be the Mercantile Marine Medal but the ribbon seems to be the wrong colour? Thank you. scottmarchand Posted 30 April , 2020 Share Posted 30 April , 2020 Its correct but not the mercantile marine but rather the Naval Long Service and Good conduct Medal, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Naval_Long_Service_and_Good_Conduct_Medal_(1848)

RNCVR Posted 30 April , 2020 Share Posted 30 April , 2020 Hello Lynnie, King Edward 7th type Royal Naval Long Service medal awarded for completion of 15 yrs long service & good conduct. The recipients details will be impressed around the rim of the medal. If you post these details - ON (if a later period during Edward's reign), name, rate, & ship) someone will be able to advise you to his Service Record at the NA in the ADM188 series. The recipient might possibly also have 1WW medals, & this can be determined by checking the ADM 171 (1WW RN medal roll) series. Thanks, Bryan
