Volleyball Posted 29 April , 2020 Share Posted 29 April , 2020 (edited) Hi this is my first post and was looking for some information on this particular bag strap. I was trying to find what type of strap this is and locate one but was unable to do so. It has a metal hook on both sides and a metal piece attaching the hook to the d rings, I have looked and am unable to find anything about this specific strap type or gas mask bag it came on. I am hoping that someone here might know what bag this strap came on and where to find one so I can purchase it. I inserted pictures of the strap and bag combos that I could find online, apologies if these are anyones photos i am using but i couldn't find many photos to use. Thank you everyone for the help and I hope someone can help me locate one of the straps that I can add to my collection. Thank you! Wardog Posted 29 April , 2020 Share Posted 29 April , 2020 (edited) I don't think I have ever seen these slings for sale separately- you would be best to look for a good example of the haversack with one. This though is a Great War- WWI-First World War Forum- so this thread will quickly close due to the subject being Second World War-off topic. Regards, Paul. Wardog Posted 29 April , 2020 Share Posted 29 April , 2020 (edited) Quote The pre war respirator haversack MK V had a sling with 1 snap hook end. The respirator haversack MK VI sling had a hook both ends and was detachable. The MKVII sling had no hooks and so the ends were permanently fixed by rings on the haversack. Info. from Jon Mills- Militaria Magazine No 8 (UK version) September 1994. Hope that helps. If you want one detachable both ends it looks as though it would be a MK VI dated 1939, 1940 or 1941. Regards, Paul. PS I now see you have posted on a thread that gave this info so I have wasted my time. Edited 29 April , 2020 by Wardog
Volleyball Posted 29 April , 2020 Author Share Posted 29 April , 2020 I appreciate your time and help I am new to this whole topic that is why I was trying to get any info at all. I did look for the mkvi bag but the straps hooks are attached with fabric rather than metal and I was trying to get the metal version in the pictures. If anyone knows what that one is or has one I would be greatful if they could help out too. Thanks so far
trench whistle Posted 29 April , 2020 Share Posted 29 April , 2020 The strap illustrated is a varient found on some mkvi havisacks, presumably peculiar to particular makers. Many companies made havisacks and whilst made to specification they are not all identical in every detail. There is currently a mkvi with the strap you are after on ebay, item number 254566555865 if you want to view it. If you are just after a strap I would suggest keeping an eye on ebay until a cheap knackered havisack with the strap type you're interested in comes up and use it as a doner.
