Z Special Co. ASC

Hi folks,

I've come across a pair of brothers on the Anglesey Absent Voters List 1918 who have unusual units.  This is the first one:

 

M2/181475  Enoch Roberts ASC Z Special Co.  (no rank stated)

 

Family tradition says he was a despatch rider.  The only "Z Special Co."  I can think of was the REs Gas one, and conceivably he might have been attached to them, but is there an alternative?
