Regimental Numbering in Coldstream Guards

Recommended Posts

Does any kind soul have knowledge of the regimental numbering of the Coldstreams, please?

I'm trying to track the battalions that a pair of brothers served in:-

9449    Gdsmn ROBINS, Daniel, disembarked Le Havre on 13 August 1914

10054  Gdsmn ROBINS, Robert, disembarked 13 September 1914 (likely in a draft of reinforcements).

Any guidance would be very gratefully received.

Ken

Thanks a lot Russ, that's given me a starting point - much more than I had about half an hour ago!

Regards

  • 2 weeks later...

how did I miss this post ???

The numbers have little bearing on the battalion in which they served  - quite common to move between them

Daniel Robins's disembarkation date is given as 12th August 1914, on the sources I've checked.

Still no joy regarding his original Battalion, but he transferred to the Guards' Machine Gun Battalion on 1st February 1917 & was issued with a new service number: 640

Robert Robins' disembarkation is given as 11th September 1914 & discharged 23rd July 1915 (gunshot wound to left thigh).

Best wishes

That would be great. I think Daniel Robins was a pre-war regular and his brother Robert likely enlisted on outbreak.

I think Daniel was with 2nd or 3rd Battalion in 2nd Division as that date of disembarkation coincides with that on his MRIC. But I can't split the two battalions.

Thanks for your help.
