Remembered Today:

Can anyone identify this serial number?

Hello all,

I picked up a WW1 US Helmet a while back and I noticed there is a serial number on the inside lip of the helmet. It reads: “ZJ252.” I was wondering if anyone knows what this means about the helmet. Any information is appreciated. Thanks!

The letters ZJ identify the maker (sorry don't know off hand what company that would be). The numbers identify the lot of heat treated steel used to make the shell.

Thank you so much! Any chance you know where I could try and find the name of the company? Also, do you know if this lot of helmets would have gone to one certain division, or would they have been given out at random?

This link suggests that ZJ markings were thought to be for the Columbian Enamelling & Stamping Co.

The company manufactured metal utensils in Terre Haute, Vigo County, Indiana
