Captain Gilbert 'Guy' Blaine

Once again I turn to this forum for some help. I am researching Captain Gilbert 'Guy' Blaine. I can find very little information about him but I am aware that he was commissioned as a 2nd Lt.in the Somerset Light Infantry in 1914. His name crops up in British Newspapers stating he was 3rd Btn. and another 4th Bt. His name appeared in the Gazette on 1st Jan 1917 and he was awarded the Military Cross. I would be grateful for any information about Blaine, his action for being awarded the MC etc.

Thank you in advance

The 1/1/17 gazette indicates it will be a New Year’s Honour award so not for a specific action so there will not be a specific citation.

Many thanks for letting me know. I was not aware that they could be awarded for that but certainly makes sense.

There is a Gilbert Blaine Collection at the USAF Library:

Captain Gilbert "Guy" Blaine was a falconer and big game hunter. He served with the British military in Prince Albert's Somerset Light Infantry from 1914-1919. He was an active falconer for over 50 years.

This collection is part of the Richard Gimbel Aeronautical Collection. The holdings consist primarily of falconry articles and essays as well as photographs of the Wright brothers and their work.  The Falconry collection in Clark Special Collections Branch also includes a 2002 re-print of Blaine's book, Falconry.

He also has an entry in the Britain School & University rolls 1914-1918 Transcription on findmypast.
