Shiny Posted 31 March , 2020 Author Share Posted 31 March , 2020 Hi Peter, Excellent suggestion, thank you very much. I've found him on Find My Past joining the Amalgamated Society Of Railway Servants! He joined on the 12th of Feb 1911 aged 28 as a passenger porter so maybe he did 6 years? Shiny Posted 31 March , 2020 Author Share Posted 31 March , 2020 Just to add to the story, my friend who's relative this is has just sent me three photos he's found that may help us a bit: In this first one he is second from the left in the back row looking straight at the camera. He appears tobe wearing a LCpl stripe so this must be pre-war?
Shiny Posted 31 March , 2020 Author Share Posted 31 March , 2020 His daughter was born in 1912 and his son in March 1915 so this could be around Christmas 1915 making him about 7 months old?
Shiny Posted 31 March , 2020 Author Share Posted 31 March , 2020 Finally a blurry group photo. He is seated on the far left of the middle row, you can see the crown on his wrist. I did find something in the 16th battalion's war diary saying a training cadre had been set up on the 2nd of May 1918 to be attached to an American battalion to train them. Maybe this is the SNCO's out of that cadre as I can see three Americans in the back row. Michael
