Chasspot converted

Chasspot has S71 cross guard and scabbard with German Bar stud like Vavaria and ( limited) Wurttemberg. Could be wrong? added, not sure is numbers on side of cross guard are a German unit, used as Ersatz with the M71 and possibly the Gew 88 rifle in Great War .
You guys should know more than me, any help would be great! Thank you

Looks like correct upgraded piece for S1871 with rehilting adding a metall part for longer handle behind crossguard, similar pieces were done by arms dealers by remarketing obsolete rifles, the stamp is mostly Landsturm battalion, where the Ri? Rl could be location of the Landsturm unit.

  • 2 weeks later...

The markings seem to be both original French, mostly scrubbed out with German unit over stamped, can anyone help with unit markings?

looks like

7. (?) . large script L . Large script R.  Small r. Then a small l maybe?. 3. 106. ???!

I dont see there a script R most real a normal B, LB in large font and smaller font RL? RI? or other , as mentioned on start of Landsturm the Battalions were named after location, is possible that this is a a R? location designation stamp.

Andy, I was guessing, the 2 photos are all I have to go on, I am back on the road, truck driver/ Big Lorry driver, how do you see the unit marks, what would you say the unit is?

Thanks for nice words, but we all still learn. My opinion is like mentioned in previous mail, the older unit was striked out, that was mostly used prewar and later the newer unit was applied.
