Steve1871 Posted 25 March , 2020 Share Posted 25 March , 2020 In the Great War, Germany used a lot of S71 Bayonet’s. The movie was for a much earlier period in Japan, the movie is The Last Samurai with Tom Cruise, The Movie used the same M71 ( 1871) Mauser and Bayonet’s. The prop is the bayonet and is exelent condition and detail the leather is very soft, the buckle is aluminum brass colored, the cartridge bot is all leather with full interior. The bayonet is all plastic, hilt and blade. It was copied down to the unit markings on cross guard In a few pic’s, I used a real S61 bayonet ( left in pic’s) to compare. Hope you agent’s like More pic’s

OLD ROBIN HOOD Posted 25 March , 2020 Share Posted 25 March , 2020 Greetings from Locked Down Sherwood Forest. Really amazing quality for a film prop, it would stand close scrutiny. Nice when Hollywood gets it right. I have a few film props but nothing as nice as that. I hope that all of you out there are keeping well and cheerful during these troubled times. trajan Posted 27 March , 2020 Share Posted 27 March , 2020 Thanks Steve, I remember seeing them in the film and at first wondered where did they get so many then the frontal lobe system kicked in... Sure is a very good one! Julian
Steve1871 Posted 27 March , 2020 Author Share Posted 27 March , 2020 Southern California has been home on and off for too many years. I have a very long time friend, sells Militaria and old to antique arms too. He would tell me of the guy, from one of the many prop houses for Hollywood, he was trying to buy around 10 or more M71 rifles and bayonets that would be refinished for some “secret” ( The Last Samurai) movie. Since I collect M71, he would have to hide any ( makers) that I did not have. This excellent prop did not come up till about 2-3 years after the movie
