Guest Posted 22 March , 2020 Share Posted 22 March , 2020 The Norwegian steamer Bellax were sunk by German UB22 by bombs and gunfire in the North Sea on Jan 27 1917. She was en route from Fredrikstad in Norway to Le Havre in France with a load of lumber. Crew of 17 were allowed to leave ship in two lifesaving crafts. They reached the west coast of Jutland (Denmark) after 5 days of hard rowing in tough weather. Bellax was built at Akers mek. Verksted, Oslo in September 1914, 1107 BRT, Call sign: MKPD, master: Hartvig Svendsen. The Sea War Museum in Thyboroen in Denmark have asked me for photos of the skip as well as the captain. Ralph Currell Posted 23 March , 2020 Share Posted 23 March , 2020 Hello Mort, I regret I can't help with photos, but I see in Lloyd's Register that the ship was originally named "Adjutor" when built.
