RegHannay Posted 13 March , 2020 Share Posted 13 March , 2020 I have been doing some research into King Edwards Horse, (A. squadron) for information on two particular men (of which I can find very little). I came across a Captain who was arrested for inappropriate conduct. An application for G.M.C was made. G.O.C 1st army directed the G.O.C 12th division to deal with the matter. On the 19th November 1915 the officer was severely reprimanded. Sadly the officer concerned died of wounds a few weeks later 19/01/16. My question is what could be construed as "inappropriate conduct" ? Thanks in advance Dave D

There is mention of this in biographies concerning Vera Brittain in respect of her brother, who was KIA (apparently possibly through a suicidal behaviour), before the charge could be brought to trial. helpjpl Posted 13 March , 2020 Share Posted 13 March , 2020 1. 'A' Squadron King Edward's Horse WD for 10 November 1915 states that Captain AC Shaw was put under arrest for insubordinate conduct. This courtesy of ancestry: 2. He died 09 January 1916: https://www.cwgc.org/find-war-dead/casualty/61334/shaw,-charles-athelstan/ JP
RegHannay Posted 13 March , 2020 Author Share Posted 13 March , 2020 Thank you Frogsmile and JP, It definitely looks like insubordinate conduct and not inappropriate conduct. A mistake on King Edwards Horse Webpage. I will need to access the war diary of A .Sqdn to see if there is anything on William Hannay Fothergill. Thanks again Dave D
