I notice she has previous service in Malta, I didn't think this counted as a theatre of war (happy to be corrected), but maybe she was on hospital ships etc or in Egypt or the Eastern Med as well.

This could this be the lady with the VAD card:

MBE awarded to Mrs. Audrey Crossley. LG 7 Jan 1919

Superintendent, Cable Department, British War Mission in U.S.A.

https://www.thegazette.co.uk/London/issue/31114/supplement/465

as well as the above, this may explain the termination of her VAD duties at Theydon in 1916:

marriage on 14 Dec 1916 at Christ Church, Woburn Square, London

Basil Hole Charles Jasper CROSSLEY, 27, bachelor, captain Army service Corps, of 4 The Park, Kingswood, Bristol, father Arthur Charles CROSSLEY (Deceased), Damask Linen Merchant

to Audrey THOMPSON, 24, spinster, of 28 Upper Bedford Place, daughter of Alfred THOMPSON, Linen Merchant

There was a Civilian MBE first type with purple ribbon with this pair but I did not think they were connected but it suppose to have come with the pair so you see my confusion ??

Service in Malta would normally qualify for the BWM only.

I think we are talking about Annie Amelia Thompson who earned the BWM and VM with the VAD.

Thanks to all who have replied I think Charlie has found her and the MBE that was with the pair was a red herring.
