Remembered Today:

Horse Years

I'm looking into the story of Blackie, the mount of Leonard Comer Wall. When the horse died the papers recorded his age as 35; I've looked in the extensive library but aren't convinced by some of the conversions to human age, most come out over 100. Can anyone possessed of equestrian expertise advise?

Thanks in anticipation

Exactly 105.

Which means he was born in the horse equivalent year of 1837.

What does his birth certificate say?

Thank you Dai; as I was on intellectually shaky ground (is there any other kind?) with our four legged friends I thought I would check that Blackie had his metaphorical ton up.

I am more familiar with thoroughbreds.

Do you know what the horse was used for

A war horse of some sort.

We have had a horse that made it to 34 well a pony. I think these so called animal to human conversions make little sense,  a horse is a horse and a dog is dog. Trying to compare in these ways is pure anthropomorphism.

The origin of my question is here in Marilyne's kind offer of photos JB. As I look into the story it seems to get a bit confusing as to location and the circumstances of his master's death, but Blackie's post war story is correct.

Thanks Keith; this is why I was interested - I've a recollection of seeing an article somewhere making just that point but I didn't read it, and now I can't find it to check.
