I have searched far and wide for a unit for this soldier, but drawn a blank. He enlisted in Feb 15 and was discharged in Dec 17 with GSW. SWB, 14/15 Star, BWM and VM. The bit in the middle is a mystery. Any ideas?

Thanks.

where have you looked to save going over old ground ? I could reel off places but you might have tried them

Thanks. Ancestry: census/birth etc, MIC, Medal Roll, SWB. No pension record, no absent voter entry, no service record. Brief look at Newspaper Archive negative.

Not seeing anything more than already listed for him.

There is a pension record card for him on Fold3  - this does not give any further details on his actual unit. Only his wound was GSW to left shoulder.

He shows up on newspaper casualty list 28/8/1917 so probably wounded earlier in August.

I have a couple of near numbers on my list:

M2/048688 Pte Herbert George Thompson attested 08/02/1915

M2/048918 Pte Thomas Jones Attested 10/02/1915

So that means he would have attested around 8th or 9th Feb 1915 and trained at Grove Park.

If he joined a new MT company it could be any of the following formed in January February and March 1915:

175 to 181 formed Jan 1915

250, 256 to 262 formed Feb 1915

263 264 March 1915

265, 266 Feb 1915

267 to 269 March 1915

271 Feb 1915

272, 274, 277, 278, 282, 283 March 1915

However he may have gone to an earlier company as a replacement.

Thank you both. It's useful to know that there's nothing more. I'll trawl newspaper articles again.
