flintman Posted 21 February , 2020 Share Posted 21 February , 2020 Hello Forum Members 11242 L/Cpl Hubert Ernest Franklin 8th Gloucester Regiment kia 3/7/16 Gordon Dump Cemetary London Gazette: 19/2/17 page 1759 Military Medal awarded. (Ancestry + LG) I have checked war diary from date of death to April 1917. No mention of this award as far as I can tell. I would like to hear from anyone who can provide a copy of his Citation or reason for his award? Alternatively confirm which local newspaper is most likely to have had his photo and possibly a write up so I can visit local archives in Gloucester ? Thank you for looking and any guidance appreciated. Clive
EDWARD1 Posted 22 February , 2020 Share Posted 22 February , 2020 According to Howard Williamsons Great War Medals, this Gazette covers awards for the Battle of the Somme period 1st July - 10th Dec 1916. Late awards and those awarded the MM for actions prior to their death
flintman Posted 22 February , 2020 Author Share Posted 22 February , 2020 Many thanks Edward. It must be for his efforts at Tara Usna, La Boisselle. I think I will have to go to archive newspapers and hope they have some details or a photo. Thanks again. Clive
