Looks quite similar to other ww1 spoons I have seen. Does the number have any connection with your grandfather?

Attached is my Great Grandfathers WW1 spoon. It has 31161 engraved on the front and RIF on the rear.

He was 31161 in the Royal Inniskilling Fusileers.

Coldstreamer,

There are quite a number of threads on GWF on this subject.   If you type "Spoons" into the search box quite a number will come up.  Here is an example:

Good luck with identifying your example!

Regards,

Michael.

Definitely correct for the period, a fiddle pattern spoon.

Looks like he scrounged a new one if it's not his number.

Maybe not!

Description

Nickel silver, Maillechort, German silver, Argentan, new silver, nickel brass, albata, alpacca, is a copper alloy with nickel and often zinc. The usual formulation is 60% copper, 20% nickel and 20% zinc. Nickel silver is named due to its silvery appearance, but it contains no elemental silver unless plated.
