Percy Norfolk Bridge

Percy enlisted into the Royal Engineers on 9th February 1915. Looking at what is left of his service record, he was in the 129 Field Company (or Corps) having being in France from 1st September 1915. Anyone know where he would have been stationed whilst in France?

PS you'll have noticed he was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal in 1918, published in the London Gazette 17 Jun 1918 ;https://www.thegazette.co.uk/London/issue/30750/supplement/7138

Hi Max,

Many thanks for your rapid reply. Yes I knew about him being awarded the Meritorious Medal, it was more clear on the images on FMP. Thank you for pointing me to the War Diaries on Ancestry.

Percy emigrated to Australia in 1922 and married a first cousin (once removed) of mine. His grandson has just been in contact with me to ask about his time in the UK and the Royal Engineers. I met Percy and his wife several times from the late 1950's to their last visit in the late 1970's. Like many servicemen, he never talked about his time in WW1.

Once again, many thanks.

It was guesswork based on his name.  A search of his name on Ancestry which produced his record and medal records also threw up a reference to Australia WW2 Military Service records and to a number of Aus electoral rolls.  I don't have world wide access to Ancestry so can't see the detail which is why I hedged my post with "looks as if" and I didn't look further.

His name is fairly unique but it could always be another Percy Norfolk Bridge I guess.  That said, this looks like him??

Good morning Max,

Spot on!! Thanks for this link, it is my man. Unfortunately the record hasn't been digitised yet, I will have to contact my cousin in Oz to see if she can come up with anything.
