slick63 Posted 22 January , 2020 Share Posted 22 January , 2020 I did a search but couldn`t find anything on here. I happened across this 6 episode series a couple days ago. It`s sort of like a French Band of Brothers set in the Great War. No English subtitles unfortunately.... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_42G__LzbmM
Martin Bennitt Posted 24 January , 2020 Share Posted 24 January , 2020 Thanks for the find. It is the dramatisation of memoirs by Maurice Genevoix, who was called up at the beginning of the war and served as a lieutenant until he was seriously wounded near Eparges in April 1915. They rank among the leading narratives of the war. Don't know why I didn't catch this when it was broadcast on French television in 2014 but will now. slick63 Posted 24 January , 2020 Author Share Posted 24 January , 2020 Thanks for the reply, I found the series quite entertaining for want of a better word. I could follow the story reasonably well without subs, even though my French is virtually non existent. The attention to detail with the kit and landscape was very good I thought. And the storyline was believable, as it should be with a memoir.
charlie962 Posted 12 November , 2020 Share Posted 12 November , 2020 After several years delay Maurice Genevoix was 'Pantheonised' yesterday along with all "Ce de '14". Link to French Govt site and link to ceremony are here Charlie
