Checking Electoral registers

In 1927 there is a William, Kate and Arthur at 25a London Road. William disappears in 1928.

I would advise ordering the Death Certicate for then man died June 1928

There is another Kate/William living at 75 Rigg Street earlier in the 1920s (indeed up to 1926-7) which may also be them.

I would add that in the 1939 register a married man Arthur Smith and family live 2 doors down from Kate;s address given in her probate in 1936.

I will search again to see if that help tracking down his military details. But enough for tonight

Been through hundreds of Artillery men's records without linking any one to William. The few that lived in Carlisle are definitively not him or were killed and therefore not him. We need a bit of luck or inspiration. At the moment one must assume his records were amongst those destroyed in WW2 by fire.

Thank you so much Mark1959 for looking on my behalf. Much appreciated, and I have found out more about him than I knew before posting on here, which is great!

Julia :-)
