Bob Chandler Posted 13 January , 2020 Share Posted 13 January , 2020 Evening all, I'm currently researching a relative who was appointed to the 2/5th ESR from the reserve on 17 April 1916 and then transferred to the 1st Surrey Rifles (1/21st London Regiment) on 31 August 1916, his date of embarkation for France. As they were a second line Territorial unit I'd imagine the 2/5th were engaged on some kind of garrison / home defence duties that summer but I'd be grateful to hear from anyone with specific information about what they were doing between 17/04/1916 and 31/08/1916, and where they were stationed. I'd hoped to answer this myself by a visit to Redhill library today but sadly their copy of the history of the East Surrey Regiment is incomplete (starts at volume 3 in 1917) Many thanks, Bob
Admin kenf48 Posted 13 January , 2020 Admin Share Posted 13 January , 2020 The East Surrey website states they were on Coastal Defence http://www.queensroyalsurreys.org.uk/militia_vol_territorials/mvt17_1.shtml The LLT states Sevenoaks June 1916 before moving to Thanet. Assuming he was a Derby man the training unit was the 3/5 Ken
