Casualty Form / Statement of Service

Hello

Please is someone able to explain the relationship between these two forms?

I have these for a man but they do not align exactly, although they both hold similar information.

Which is the 'best' to base a service history off of?

Many thanks

Who is the man ?

Both records will likely need to be read in conjunction to get the best information.

its quite common for dates to get mixed up given the amount of paperwork that needed to be completed for millions of forms and registers that got used

how out are the dates ?

Yes, I can see that. I think the dates are probably not the only things mixed up..

It is more the events that don't align i.e. some are recorded on one but not the other. Which is the 'key/master' document for service history?

Neither really- either could be right. In most cases they tally up when the finer points are looked at but not always. As Coldstreamer mentions,  the massive clerical work involved leads to lots of errors.

Are there any specific points that are causing you the problem ?

Not especially, I'm just keen to get it as accurate as possible and concerned regards the best way to approach it. Where should I start?

In summary, to get the full service history, combine both docs?

I guess it is just one of those quirks of army administration that the service history is split over 2 separate forms..?

In this case I'd say so. It's because different forms also has slightly different uses so what might be pertinent for one form isn't for another.
