Hi Guys

 

Looking for whereabouts and actions of 5th Bn South Wales Borders over the month of April 1918.

 

Any help appreciated.

They were, as you are probably aware, Divisional Troops and a Pioneer Battalion. They were in the 19th Division and on the 10th April put in the line near Wulverghem to hold the German attacks on the Lys suffering heavy casualties.  Their allotted position in the Corps line was Lumm Farm, although they were forced back they held the line until the South African Brigade could counter attack.

Hi Ken,

 

Thanks for the reply and the links. I am on Ancestry but couldn't find the 5th BN SWB War Diary. Thanks to your link I found the man I was looking for amazingly he was listed in a casualty list from an action on 10 April 1918. He died 9 days later in a Boulogne hospital. Thanks again.
