Your 'minimalistic approach' has whetted my appetite!

Durham Light Infantry I might suspect [or perhaps not - but regardless this may be of interest to someone]

Edit: Your second attempt has landed better as a new thread so I have now cut my reply and pasted it into the other thread.

Henry Edwards has a Silver War Badge. Service 31/8/14 - 28/6/16. Discharged due to sickness. Discharged from 5th DLI. To France 17/4/15 (1/5 DLI landed Boulogne 18/4/15). Medal records under 5/2486

Now cut and pasted into the better thread!

EDWARDS, Henry, Pte, 2486 DLI

Thanks to the Western Front Association / Ancestry (Fold3) there are 1 x Pension Card and 2 x Pension Ledgers [one is a initial/duplicate]

Interesting in other ways too ...

PC = a Widow's claim from "E    34, Sylt St, Harden" [that's my transcription of the handwriting]

Date and cause of death "Discharge"

But card is also marked "Man alive 9.8.19 " and "L.C. state man not dead. 9.8.19" = so what was going on then?

PL = Discharge 28.6.16 and single at 34 Sixth Street, Horden Colly [Colliery I think]

"Ventral Hernia Attrib" to service

Various notes but 20% disability 8/- 13/10/20 onward - made permanent 11/10/22 [but also a note "DORMANT" and "Final Award 3.10.22"] so I am a little puzzled as to how long he got something

Yes sorry about that ...I swear blind I was “miles away” from the Submit Reply button but off it went and then I couldn’t delete it !!

Sounds like he was a bit of a mystery man to the Drs as well “Acute appendicitis’s “ which turned out to be two other different things,
good of them to have gone back and  updated the diary with the final diagnosis .

Can this be amalgamated with the “correct” thread?

I have already reported the fact that is now the "old" tread to the Mods as a duplicate - so should get locked so that all replies go to the main "correct" one - I hope.

Interesting to see these detailed medical notes.

Happy New Year to you and all GWF pals.

Sorry for the early posting error.... can the other one be expunged?

Thanks for those Mark1959 and Matlock1418..

He seems to have been a bit of a mystery to the Drs as well ,acute appendicitis /abscess /gangrene ...good of them to have updated the diaries 10 days later when they discovered what it really was.

Cannot see the other thread

Reading between the lines he appears to be the Henry Edwards born 1893-6. Married Esther J Miller in 1916. They are living in Third Street Horden in 1930 (electoral register) and are still there in 1939 but her surname has been crossed out and replaced with "Johanessen". He is, unsurprisingly a miner. Appears to die in early 1941.

Appears to be from a large family living in First Street in 1911. Age then giving as 17. in 1901 as 7. DoB given in 1939 is 15/10/96. The most likely birth seems to be 4Q 1893 in Easingston Reg District
