I am sorting through some old badge dies and would very much appreciate identification of the regiment please.

Kind regards.

St George and the Dragon most famously relates to the 5th (Northumberland) Regiment of Foot, later the Northumberland Fusiliers, but it might also be connected with militia, livery, or even a hunt button so one has to be cautious.  In particular the Northumberland’s version invariably shows St George with a spear rather than a sword as in the case with one of your dies.

The other button shows a British Naval Crown.  Long associated with the Admiralty, together with its perhaps more famous fouled anchor badge  The crown was awarded as a badge to appear on colours to a number of line infantry regiments that served as marines on board the fleet, most especially at the Battle of St Vincent (“Glorious 1st June”).

The GvR and crown was used by the Norfolk Yeomanry because of its association with the Royal Family’s holiday home in Norfolk, but again one should be cautious as such an emblem was also used for more mundane organisations like prisons and constabularies, the corps of military police and even the Royal Court.

To me the most interesting die is the bugle horn, which relates to the part shoulder title ordered to be worn with a regimental title by all light infantry regiments from 1905.
