Simon J Emmerson Posted 27 December , 2019 Share Posted 27 December , 2019 Seasons Greetings, can anyone help me identify the cap badge of this Pte please.
Sepoy Posted 27 December , 2019 Share Posted 27 December , 2019 It is a Maltese cross style cap badge, as worn by the King's Royal Rifle Corps, and several of the London Regiment Battalions. Unfortunately, I cannot see a (red) cloth backing to the badge as worn by the KRRC; a metal KRRC shoulder title; or a metal Territorial "T" shoulder title to clearly identify the unit. However, he may have a cloth shoulder title indicating he is a member of one of the London Regiment TF Battalions, such as 16th County of London Battalion (Queen's Westminster Rifles) or 9th County of London Battalion (Queen Victoria Rifles). Hope this helps a little. I will now go back to my current post Christmas hangover state... (I didn't even have a drink!) Sepoy
FROGSMILE Posted 27 December , 2019 Share Posted 27 December , 2019 (edited) I second Sepoy’s assessment and add that the 1914 leather equipment and general appearance of the man suggest a member of one of the London Regiment (TF) battalion’s that he described, rather than a regular of the KRRC. The absence of black rifles buttons implies perhaps a man recently badged, given that the background to the photo suggests a venue in Britain where supply of insignia was as a general rule more reliable. It’s also unusual that he has no shoulder titles, which again suggests a man not yet fully equipped with his unit insignia. Michael Edited 27 December , 2019 by KizmeRD Didn't get the photo to attach first time of asking.
