The Letters of John Anthony Hayward

John Anthony Hayward was born in 1875 Sunbury at the time Middlesex know Surrey.

 

He joined the Royal Navy 1893 and was dishonorable discharge with 18 months hard labour around 1901, for striking a senior officer.

 

The first letter is dated 16/1/1915 whilst he was serving with 41st Company Royal Garrison Artillery.

All the letters are to Mrs Van Der Heyle his pen pal.

 

46872 Gunner JA Hayward  41St Coy RGA..

 

The letters cover a small time in the World War but are a very interesting read.

You need to correcct the title of the thread, you have his Surname wrong. I spent ages trying to find the wrong man

 

He had a troubled life and I found this interesting from 1903 "attempted suicide"

Letter No 10. Dated 1st April 1915. 

John has been transferred to the Royal Engineers.

86953 Sapper. M Tunneling Company.

St Mary Barracks, Chatham, Kent.

John was post to F&F, 7th April 1915.
