Bognor Regis Memorial Hospital

I am researching Thomas Brockhurst whose name appears on the war memorial in Bognor Regis Memorial Hospital.  I have a photograph of the memorial but it is not possible to read the names because it is glazed.  Does anyone have a photograph of this memorial showing the names?

A photo of Bognor Regis War Memorial inside the hospital, I took a while ago.  I will go back in the new year and get some close ups of your man’s name.  I will also try taking the Memorial again to see if I can lose some of the reflections.

I have been, to the hospital today, it is nightmare to photograph, because of the glass.  The ceiling is low and the lights reflect on the Memorial.

Thank you so much for the photograph.  Thomas Brockhurst is the person I am interested in as he died in the hospital here in Walton on Thames which was run by New Zealanders and the majority of the patients were from there although a few, such as Thomas,  were from other countries.  Several of the British who died there had local connecitons so I am not sure why this man was sent there.

Do you have access to the pension cards on Fold3 or The Western Front Association, Thomas has a pension card, with cause of death?  Did the hospital specialise in spinal injuries?

I am a member of the WFA (membership number 216 - I joined in 1980) and frequently look at the pension cards as so often it is the only record of someone's service which is the case with Thomas Brockhurst.  The hospital at Walton on Thames treated all  injuries and illnesses and they did not really specialise in any particular injury.  There were 3 NZ hospitals in the UK which were NZ General Hospital No 1 at Brockenhurst in Hampshire, NZGH No 2 at Walton on Thames and NZGH No 3 at Codford in Wiltshire.  After treatment those who survived were sent to a NZ Convalesence Hospital in Hornchurch, Essex before being sent back to their unit or back to NZ to be discharged.
