Can anyone please interpret the Parish in the snippet below?

The writing is very splodgy but my best guess would be Douth, Co. Meath.

Expert help would be much appreciated.

Thanks Jon, but I had already explored those avenues without any luck.

The lettering is so splodgy I am not even 100% sure  that it is Co. Meath, it could be Louth or . . . . . ?

Is there an actual street address that could aid a search?

No street address

Thanks to you all for the interest on a very wet Friday afternoon!

I like the look of tom's Dundalk, but that is in Co. Louth?      Dowth is in Co. Meath (just!)

I am a bit torn between the two, but I am edging towards Dowth in Co. Meath.

With a mans name we could do some more sleuthing.

Dundalk is in Louth.

Dowth is in Meath,. and means the place of darkness.

Just my opinion, I‘m not happy with Douth, Dowth or Meath, I think there are at least 6 letters in each word.

A service number would be good too. FMP often have better quality scans than  Ancestry.

I agree Charlie, there appears to be an extra character in both place names.

But there are only 32 possibilities for an Irish county - the only one even close to resembling this handwriting is “Meath”. If it is not Meath - what other possibilities could it be? (except the hand writer had very weak geography!)

If you accept it is Meath, you then accept the hand-writer has a strange way of writing “th” which could also explain the extra character in Dowth.

My twopence anyway.

It just occurred to me that if your image is from Ancestry it may be clearer in FMP.

My guess incorrect spellings - and that's not unlikely. I see the extra letter as an incorrect 'd' in each

Dowdth and Meadth

Dowth, Meath, the clerks were barely literate.

Thanks for all the replies, eight heads are better than one!

I am going for Dowth, in Co. Meath.
