Remembered Today:

1st Life Guards HCCR

Hi,

has anyone ever worked out how many men from the original squadron of 158 Officers & Troopers sent out on the 15th August 1914 from the 1st Life Guards Regiment at Hyde Park Barracks to form part of the Household Cavalry Composite Regiment made it back safely or wounded.

I know the regiment sent out a later contingent a couple of months after to fight under their own regimental name but believe quite a high number of the original squadron attached to the HCCR were killed or wounded within the first 4 months. I'd be most grateful for any stats at all.

Thanks,

 Albert

on a slight tangent - I know some guards battalions had less than a dozen men that served unscathed all the way through the war

you could got through the medal index cards, cwgc, swb and casualty returns but it would be quite a long job

A good project, especially as service records of the Life Guards have generally survived. It may be good to see if their archive holds an embarkation list.
