taylorsearcher Posted 6 December , 2019 Share Posted 6 December , 2019 As part of my research of my Great grandfather C.S.M. Alfred Nelson BAKER, a newly-discovered Cousin had in her possession what appear3d to be two of his medals. These are Coronation Medals for King Edward VII and for King George V. He was a long-serving member of the Territorials and I believe that he was awarded these for taking part in the respective coronation parades. Whilst they in themselves appear to be authentic - and I have a photograph of his mother wearing these and his service medals later, after his death, would they have been engraved or personalised ? The 1902 medal is engraved with his name:- ‘Sgt A Baker 2nd Roy. Fus. ‘ around the Royal Cypher on that side of the medal. Is this authentic or could this have been engraved / added later ‘unofficially’ ? The 1911 medal is not similarly engrav3d.

Terry_Reeves Posted 6 December , 2019 Share Posted 6 December , 2019 (edited) Recipients did indeed have them named unofficially. I have a Coronation Medal to Lt Colonel David DeLara Cohen RE. There are returns for this medal at The National Archives: https://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/results/r?_q=1911+coronation+medal TR Edited 6 December , 2019 by Terry_Reeves
