Can Anyone please tell me if a death plaque would have been issued to next of kin.

My great uncle was killed at Messines Ridge in 1917, he is mentioned on the Mennin Gate at Ypre.

Many thanks,

Sandra.

It certainly would, Sandra! Not much point in issuing it to the deceased! I would have thought that all soldiers would have a registered next of kin. It`s a thing all soldiers now do and I assume it was the same then. Finding the plaque of your relative might not be easy but enjoy the challenge! Phil B

Sandra,

It's a long shot (a very long shot!!), but if you let us have his details... name, serial number (if known) regiment etc, you never know someone might have seen it.

If his name is fairly common i.e. John Smith or Albert Brown, it'll be easier to get hold of - even if it's not THE one that was issued.

I received your e-mail, but when I replied it bounced straight back.... so here's the general text.....

I've had a look around for the name but it looks like he was the only Richard Richings. The Commonwealth War Graves site has 4 "R Richings" but no other Richards.

My next suggestion was to contact Derek Robertson.... he's got a site up & running for forum members to list their "wants", but I notice you've just had a reply from him. He has had a bit of success since he set up the site only a few months ago, so you never know!

Good luck with your search,

Les.
