Harper Posted 24 November , 2019 Share Posted 24 November , 2019 (edited) I recently found this ditty in my American grandmothers papers. It was written by C. Leslie of 3 Gordon Road, Exeter. Although it was probably written during the war, she visited Devon in 1923-24 and may have picked it up then. Fred van Woerkom Posted 3 December , 2019 Share Posted 3 December , 2019 Dear Harper, May I use this 'little ditty' for one of my articles for the Dutch Western Front Associations? I will, of course acknowledge you as the finder of it in your garnsmothers belongings and the authorship of C. Leslie. Cheers, Fred

Fred van Woerkom Posted 5 December , 2019 Share Posted 5 December , 2019 Thank you Harper. It could almost be explained as a light-hearted reply to the fierce German Hymn of Hate! Cheers, Fred

According to Besley's Directory of Exeter and Suburbs, 1916-1919, that address was the home of Mrs Helen Hutchings. I wonder if she kept it as a boarding house? http://specialcollections.le.ac.uk/digital/collection/p16445coll4/id/109032/rec/9 sJ
