Allan1892 Posted 22 November , 2019 Share Posted 22 November , 2019 Looking at the service records of my cousin's great uncle, Robert Cook (RTS-5401). I can see that the 40th sailed from Avonmouth on the 24th February 1915, destination Alexandria. What I can't make out is the name of the ship. At first I thought that it was the Dunluce Castle but I have since read that this ship was used as a hospital ship later in 1915. Could it have been used as a troop ship beforehand? I have attached an image of the relevant page of his service record.
MaureenE Posted 22 November , 2019 Share Posted 22 November , 2019 This link http://www.bandcstaffregister.com/page146.html says In August 1914 she became a troopship and took part in the famous six ship Union-Castle convoy which brought 4000 troops to Europe. She was commissioned as a hospital ship for 755 patients on 6th July 1915..... Cheers Maureen
